In conjunction of World Diabetes Month, National Diabetes Institute (NADI) had organized a Charity Mini Carnival which was held on November 26, 2017 at Encorp Strand Mall, Kota Damansara, Selangor. The event were attended by Acting Deputy Health Director General (Public Health) from Ministry of Health, Dato’ Dr Chong Chee Kheong, NADI Board of Trustees members, Professor Dato’ Dr. Ikram Shah Ismail, Dr. G.R Letchuman, Dr. Zanariah Hussein, Associate Professor Norlaila Mustafa, NADI Executive Chairman (Honorary), Emeritus Professor Dato’ Mustaffa Embong and NADI Senior Manager (Honorary), Dato’ Dr. Nor ‘Aini Abu Bakar. Associate Professor Muhamad Yazid Jalaludin and Dr. Azriyanti Anuar Zaini were also attended the event to show support for NADI.
This event aimed to raise fund and also to raise awareness among the public communities of the importance of preventing and controlling diabetes from young. Free educational pamphlets and NADI Diabetes magazines were distributed while posters on keeping healthy were displayed for public’s viewing. The highlight of this event was the handover of goodies and donations to 40 children with Type 1 diabetes by Dato’ Dr. Chong Chee Kheong. There were 19 sponsors involved with this event. They were Kawan Food, Ajinomoto, Nourish Care, Coca Cola, Vanity Cosmoderm, Mr. Ken Chia Choong Wei, Gardenia, Syarikat Faiza , Julie's, Arifmama, Arifpapa, Uda Holdings, KPDNKK, J&J Rochestra Sdn Bhd, Heal & Beauty, Adabi, Karya, Strand Mall and I-Mizu Drink.
This one-day event began with Zumba exercise with the children and public, led by an energetic instructor, Sherry Al Juneid. It was followed by free health screening for the public. 14 artists were also performed at the carnival and among those involved were Najwa Latif, Ayu Damit, Bagio Damasutra, Izzmad Harun, and Ceria Pop Star winner, Nur Amira. Apart from the free diabetes/ health check-ups, there were also food & beverages, beauty products, clothes and also health products booths during the event.
